The project aims to accelerate the implementation of the Eastern Wielkopolska Climate Neutrality Strategy by enhancing governance, community involvement, and funding for a zero-emission economy by 2040.

As the Wielkopolska Region is coordinating the process of just transition in Eastern Wielkopolska, the regional authority in 2020 developed and in 2021 approved the key document: Strategy for Climate Neutrality Eastern Wielkopolska 2040 (RSCN), which will be a basis for holistic energy transition in all sectors of the economy towards climate neutrality in 2040.
Governing Body
The governing body of the Wielkopolska Region is the Marshal Office in Poznan (UMWW). UMWW comprises 19 departments, including the Department of Environment Management and Climate, which governs the environmental policy, climate issues, air quality management, and waste management.
Capacity and Expertise
The Wielkopolska Region has sufficient know-how, highly qualified specialists in environmental protection and power systems, as well as institutional capacity to coordinate the LIFE SIP.
Main Objective of the SIP
The main objective of the SIP is to significantly reduce the time required to achieve the intended outcomes in the RSCN by providing the conditions for its full and rapid implementation:
- Building and then consolidating a governance system for the pursuit of climate neutrality at regional and local levels.
- Achieving social acceptance and active involvement of the society of Eastern Wielkopolska in the economic and social transformation to a zero-emission economy.
- Mobilizing additional external funds to absorb and redistribute them for effective implementation of the RSCN.
- Supporting the implementation of the RSCN with a particular focus on the transformation process of the utility sector, transport, and changes reducing CO2 emissions in SMEs.
- Standardization of solutions and transferring and replicating them in other EU regions (including direct replication and transfer during SIP to the Łódzkie Region and to 2 coal regions in Bulgaria).
Stakeholder Integration
SIP will integrate groups of stakeholders (about 50 formal participants in total) to support the RSCN implementation in a coordinated mode, including the acceleration of effective complementary funding use.
