Projectdetails

Introduction

The project will lead to the full implementation of the Concept of Active Species Conservation Tools in the Czech Republic 2023–2032. At the same time, the project will contribute to updating strategic approaches and the full integration of EU strategic commitments arising from the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the EU Revision of Pollinators Initiative, ensuring their implementation in the area addressed by the project.

Objectives

The Concept sets the conditions for the preparation and implementation of tools for active targeted management plans for threatened species. The key objectives include:

  1. Preparing 44 new plans.
  2. Implementing more than 50 plans (Species Action Plans, Species Management Plans, and Regional Species Action Plans) throughout the Czech Republic.
  3. Increasing the quality of ongoing plans, including filling knowledge gaps in the biology, ecology, and genetic diversity of targeted species.

Methodology

New algorithms will be developed and adopted to evaluate the plans based on regularly collected monitoring data. As a result of the complex implementation of a large number of plans (for a minimum of 50 species), we expect that, assuming favorable conditions, the negative population trend of at least 25 target species will be reversed.

Financial Assessment

Weak points of the financing of species conservation will be identified, and adaptations of financial resources will be proposed, with their efficiency tested.

Capacity Building

The project also focuses on strengthening the capacity of nature protection authorities, especially at the regional level. This will increase their know-how in the field of active species management, leading to effective protection of species and biodiversity at a national level.

Public Engagement

A Biodiversity Awareness Public Relation plan and a Conflict Species Communication Plan will be developed, focusing primarily on the objectives and methods of species conservation. This will include understanding the importance of biodiversity conservation, including conflict species and pollinators, as an integral part of human life.
