Prescription for the EU policy cycle 2025-2027: healthy people on a healthy planet

Introduction

Climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution threaten people's health like never before. As the leading European non-profit organization for a healthy planet for healthy people, with over 75 member organizations active at the EU level and in Member States, HEAL will ramp up science-policy communication, engagement of members, partners, coalition work, and health advocacy for progress on the development and implementation of EU environmental and climate legislation.

Policy Cycle

Our prescription for the EU policy cycle 2025-27 makes the (economic) case for ambitious commitments, especially on implementation and investments, when boosting competitiveness is the new top priority.

Organizational Goals

HEAL's work, supported by multi-language, targeted communication tools and enhanced organizational governance, will contribute to better human health in the short and long term, particularly for vulnerable groups. This includes:

1. Reduced heart disease
2. Reduced lung disease
3. Reduced cancer cases

This will be achieved by strengthening the EU's response to environmental and climate-related challenges up to 2050.

Science-Policy Translation

Elevated science-policy translation will underline the urgency to act with 7 target groups at the EU level, in 16 target countries.

Expected Impacts

Impacts include:

• Progress on the implementation of EU environmental and climate legislation for people's health
• Strengthened civil society involvement to uphold the development of EU policies
• Increased public investments into climate and environmental action for better health
• Decreased science-policy gap
• Swifter uptake of new science
