Smart Tools for Smart Buildings: Enhancing the intelligence of buildings in Europe
The Smart² project aims to enhance building intelligence in Europe by developing a cloud-based platform for Smart Readiness Indicator assessments, promoting standardized audits, and facilitating SRI certification.
Projectdetails
Introduction
The project Smart Tools for Smart Buildings: Enhancing the intelligence of buildings in Europe (Smart²) aims to develop and deliver the appropriate tools and applications, which will enable the promotion and establishment of intelligence assessment of buildings in Europe, through the buildings Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) scheme.
Objectives
Smart² aspires to deliver a cloud-based open platform for assessing the intelligence of buildings, available in all 24 EU official languages. It will consider the specificities of the Member States, with a view to maximizing synergies with other EU initiatives.
Rate of Return
Within Smart², the Rate of Return of smart readiness improvements of buildings will be identified based on existing CEN standards. This will enable the definition of smartness cost-optimal building upgrades.
SRI Audit Process
As part of the project, an SRI audit process will also be developed, with the aim to act as the forerunner of a standardized procedure.
Real-Time Data Assessment
Smart² will enable the smartness assessment of buildings using real-time data, based on the in-use assessment method. This will focus on:
- Interoperability gaps
- Cybersecurity aspects
Integration with Digital Building Logbooks
Aspects of integrating SRI in digital building logbooks will also be investigated, with the aim to allow the future integration of the SRI certificate and its background information.
SRI Observatory
An SRI observatory for the monitoring and documentation of the main evolutions in the SRI development will also be delivered.
Capacity Building Activities
Capacity building activities are foreseen, aiming for the issuance of over 10,000 SRI certificates during the implementation of the project. This includes:
- Operation of an SRI call center
- Online issuance of SRI certificates for stakeholders, building designers, facility managers, and building users through a simplified Q&A procedure.
Additional Initiatives
Other initiatives, including a virtual training center, SRI days, and the first smart ready community, are also foreseen in the Smart² project.
