Projectdetails

Introduction

Lactips is a raw material producer specialized in a thermoplastic material based on casein (milk protein resulting from an excess of production). This material is the only one to be biodegradable in days (even in a marine environment) and soluble in water.

Unique Properties

The addition of a layer of this material to paper unlocks the use of food packaging that is completely recyclable, home compostable, and biodegradable in days in a marine environment if thrown away. This is particularly relevant for take-away food, notably on beaches and in cities, thereby cutting a major plastic stream into the environment and seas.

Key Features

This innovation stems from the following unique properties:

  1. Full Biodegradability: Lactips’ polymer is natural and bio-based, ensuring complete biodegradability in nature.
  2. Water-Solubility: The Lactips material dissolves in current recycling centers, freeing the other layers of packaging that can be recycled.
  3. Barrier Properties: The material provides barriers against ink, gas, O2, and fat.

Impact on Food Packaging

For the first time, recycled paper can be used in food packaging through protection from inks. This advancement represents a significant step forward in sustainable packaging solutions.
